“We find that the more information or “pre-hab” a patient has prior to making a surgical decision the greater the treatment outcomes and the efficacy of the overarching procedure.”

Pre-operative Rehabilitation

Total Knee post op.jpeg

Our team of therapists work with all types of pre-operative patients. We team up with local surgeons throughout the year in observing them both in clinic and the operating room. LWPT’s therapists attend 3-4 physician days off-site per year and also attend the latest continuing education courses.

What is the best way to get the fastest and safest outcomes for our patients. We believe that involves three factors:

  • Knowing our surgeons

    • We attend surgeries multiple times a year

    • Our physicians come in for both inservice and lectures

    • Therapists get pre-operative and post-operative notes about the surgery

    • Getting a post-op protocol

  • The latest research

    • Our clinicians attend 2-3 weekend courses a year

    • We have a clinical subscription to Medbridge

      • This gives our staff the latest courses at their fingers-tips

    • Quarterly inservice by our staff and interns

    • Lectures from the most respected coaches, trainers, and physicians in the region

  • Communication

    • Surprises are not welcomed in rehab but planned for.

      • Our clinicians do their best to control all variables we can to ensure the rehab process is smooth and without any setbacks

    • Communication is key, we take the pre-operative visits very seriously to both create goals and expectations

      • All information is relayed to both the patient and the physician

    • We relay anything that is unexpected back to your physician in a timely manner

    • All evaluation notes are faxed to the referring physician so they too can track your progress and help continuity in the delivery of healthcare

What Surgical Teams do we work with?

The Swift Path Method

stacks-image-f29dc5e.jpg

SwiftPath surgeons have adopted an advanced, systematic approach that changes the paradigm in joint replacement. SwiftPath surgeons combine advanced surgical techniques, modern pain management, and rapid rehabilitation methods. They focus on patient/family engagement and education using surgeon authored guides with specific information and protocols and JointCamps. SwiftPath utilizes a Patient Selection Algorithm, pre-op surveys, pain scores for monitoring the rehabilitation process and post-op surveys.

As therapists we are involved in putting together the most efficient and successful plan of care for our patients. This involves an extensive pre-op plan which may include 1-2 visits to discuss the process after surgery and to make any recommendations from the data we gather from observation and measurements.
